Arles, France
Arles, on the Rhône at the head of the Camargue, is the largest commune in metropolitan France by area. An important city of Roman Gaul, it has kept its amphitheatre, its ancient theatre and the Romanesque church of Saint-Trophime, listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; Van Gogh painted many of his works here. Photos taken in 2006 and 2026.
