Horsemen with drawn swords charge over fallen soldiers in a tangle of rearing horses, while the battle spreads towards a coastal tower and ships at sea in the background. The fresco, painted by Giorgio Vasari and his workshop between 1563 and 1571, recalls the Florentine victory over Pisa in 1505 and covers one of the long walls of the Salone dei Cinquecento.
