On the altar of the Chapel of the Priors, the Virgin holds the Child while the young St John and St Elizabeth turn towards them, in a soft, warm palette. Mariano da Pescia, a pupil of Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio, painted this altarpiece around 1514 for the chapel where the priors of the Republic heard mass before their sessions.
