Vault of the Chapel of the Priors – Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio (detail) – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

The gilded vault is divided into compartments with the Trinity, the Evangelists and prophets, angels with the instruments of the Passion and Latin inscriptions from Scripture, such as «Diligite inimicos vestros». Ridolfo del Ghirlandaio, son of Domenico, painted the chapel in 1511–1514 for the priors of the Florentine Republic, imitating the gold mosaics of early Christian churches.
