On the ceiling of the Hall of Constantine, a crucifix stands in a classical temple while the shattered statue of a pagan god lies at its foot, surrounded by lunettes with allegorical figures and papal coats of arms. Tommaso Laureti painted it in 1582–1585, the decoration being completed under Pope Sixtus V.
