Gold mosaics cover the sanctuary of the chapel: Christ Pantocrator blesses from the apse and the dome, surrounded by angels, prophets, evangelists and saints in Byzantine style. They were made for King Roger II by mosaicists from Constantinople in the 1140s, shortly after the chapel's consecration in 1140.
