Sala di Giove – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

The coffered ceiling of the Sala di Giove alternates painted panels and grotesques on a red ground around the central scene of the infant Jupiter nursed by the goat Amalthea. Giorgio Vasari and his workshop painted it around 1556 in the apartments of the Elements, where Jupiter's story served as an allegory of Cosimo I's good government.
