Portal of the Sala dei Gigli – Benedetto and Giuliano da Maiano – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

The marble doorway between the Sala delle Udienze and the Sala dei Gigli is framed by fluted pilasters, carved friezes and inlaid wooden doors with portraits of Dante and Petrarch. The brothers Benedetto and Giuliano da Maiano made it around 1476–1481, crowning it with a statue of St John the Baptist and putti.
