Porta Nuova – Palazzo dei Normanni, Palermo

Beside the palace, the Porta Nuova gate rises above the long wall with its loggia and pyramidal roof covered in green and yellow majolica tiles. Built in 1583 to mark the triumphal entry of Charles V in 1535 and rebuilt in 1669 after an explosion, it opens the Cassaro, Palermo's oldest street.
