The wooden ceiling of the nave is carved into honeycomb muqarnas cells and eight-pointed stars, painted with dancers, musicians, hunters, animals and Kufic inscriptions. Made around 1143 by craftsmen from the Fatimid world for Roger II, it is the largest painted Islamic ceiling to survive.
