Monogram of Christ, Sala delle Udienze – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

The gilded IHS monogram in a sunburst, carried by cherubs, is surrounded by Salviati's frescoes, with a painted scene of a warrior in a fictive tapestry above and kneeling figures on either side. The trigram, popularised by St Bernardino of Siena, recalls the proclamation of Christ as king of Florence in 1528.
