The rough stone façade rises to a crenellated gallery on corbels, crowned by the slender Arnolfo tower, 94 metres high, with mullioned Gothic windows on each floor. Built from 1299, probably to designs by Arnolfo di Cambio, the palace was the seat of the priors of the Republic, then of the Medici dukes, and is still Florence's town hall.
