Demeter – Roman art – Uffizi Gallery, Florence

A standing woman in a peplos covered by a mantle, probably Demeter, goddess of the harvest, who once held a sceptre or torch. This marble of the 1st–2nd century AD was given by Pope Pius V to Francesco I de' Medici in 1569; its head, neck and left arm are later additions.
