A sumptuous procession winds down from the hills to the stable where the kings kneel before the Child, in a blaze of gold leaf, raised gilding and precious colours. Signed and dated May 1423, Gentile da Fabriano's masterpiece of International Gothic was commissioned by Palla Strozzi for his chapel in Santa Trinita.
