The first courtyard is surrounded by arcades on columns covered with gilded stucco, around a porphyry fountain topped by a copy of Verrocchio's bronze Putto with a Dolphin. Michelozzo rebuilt it in 1453, and in 1565 it was lavishly decorated with grotesques and views of Austrian cities for the wedding of Francesco de' Medici and Joanna of Austria.
