The vaults of this passage are painted with grotesques, masks, birds and putti playing with the Medici emblems, the balls of the coat of arms and the diamond ring, sometimes with the motto «Duabus». This decoration belongs to the campaign carried out by Vasari's workshop in the 1550s and 1560s to turn the old palace into the residence of Duke Cosimo I.
