Pointed arches decorated with mosaic medallions of saints rest on ancient columns, beneath painted wooden ceilings and walls telling the lives of Saints Peter and Paul. Every surface of the chapel, built by Roger II in the 1130s and 1140s, glows with gold tesserae.
