Seated Shepherd – Roman art – Uffizi Gallery, Florence

A shepherd sits on a rock wearing the petasos, the hat of peasants and travellers, a short tunic and a shoulder bag. This fine-grained marble fragment of the late 1st or early 2nd century AD probably belonged to the frieze of a monumental fountain near Nero's Domus Aurea in Rome.
