The main room of the apartment of Leo X is decorated with paintings of the life of the Medici pope, a large scene above the fireplace and portrait busts in roundels, above a floor of red and white terracotta and marble; a modern bronze sculpture stood in the centre during the visit. Giorgio Vasari and Marco da Faenza decorated these rooms for Cosimo I from 1555, each one dedicated to a member of the Medici family.
