The great hall, with chandeliers, benches and the president's desk of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, is decorated with frescoes of the labours and apotheosis of Hercules. Giuseppe Velasco painted them in 1799 for the Bourbon kings, and the hall has hosted the Sicilian parliament since 1947.
