Saint George – Donatello – Bargello Museum, Florence

The young warrior saint stands in his Gothic niche, armoured and leaning on his cross-marked shield, with the predella below showing him slaying the dragon and freeing the princess in very low relief. Donatello carved it in marble around 1415–1417 for the niche of the Armourers' guild at Orsanmichele.
