The Virgin and Child enthroned among six kneeling angels, the largest painted panel of the 13th century, its frame decorated with medallions of saints. Commissioned from the Sienese painter Duccio in 1285 by the Laudesi confraternity of Santa Maria Novella, it has been on loan to the Uffizi since 1948.
