Outer Walls of the Royal Palace – Palazzo dei Normanni, Palermo

Massive walls of golden stone with blind arches and Arab-style windows rise beside a later wing with pointed neo-Gothic arches, among palm trees. Begun by the emirs in the 9th century and enlarged by the Normans, the palace overlooks the old Genoardo, the royal park of the Norman kings.
