Map of East Africa – Egnazio Danti and Stefano Bonsignori – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

The coast of East Africa, with the kingdom of Melinda, deserts and an elephant, faces the «Oceano Orientale» under a cartouche with a descriptive text. It belongs to the 53 maps painted on the cupboard doors of the Medici wardrobe for Cosimo I, by the cosmographer Egnazio Danti from 1563 and by Stefano Bonsignori after 1575.
