Saint Anne stands behind her daughter Mary, who holds the Child on a shared throne surrounded by five angels. Painted around 1424–1425 for Sant'Ambrogio in Florence, it was a collaboration: Masaccio, founder of Renaissance painting, painted the solid Virgin and Child and the angel in green, Masolino the rest.
