The white marble Neptune, nicknamed «il Biancone» by the Florentines, towers over a basin with sea horses, while bronze nereids, satyrs and river gods sit on its rim at the corner of the Palazzo Vecchio. Bartolomeo Ammannati created the fountain between 1560 and 1574 for Cosimo I, with the help of Giambologna and other sculptors for the bronzes.
