Eduardo Arroyo Exhibition – Large Canvases – Maeght Foundation, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

In a bright white gallery hang large recent canvases: a rider on a patchwork horse before a quilt of landscapes, a billiard table covered with numbered fragments, two women at kitchen tables, a painter attacked in his studio, a hen and a black car before a house, and street scenes with a fallen woman. Eduardo Arroyo, still painting at eighty, kept in these late works the flat colours, humour and sense of the absurd of his beginnings.
