Big Fly and Jars – Eduardo Arroyo – Maeght Foundation, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

In a room papered with a small pattern, a giant bronze fly with steel wings hangs on the wall above rows of 89 little bronze flies, while two dark jars covered with flies stand on a plinth. For Eduardo Arroyo the fly is a talisman and a symbol of Spain, 'the paradise of flies'; the jar, like an open skull filled with the water of thought, makes these works a strange vanitas.
