Angkor, Cambodia
Angkor Wat, near Siem Reap, is the largest religious monument in the world. It was built in the first half of the 12th century under King Suryavarman II as a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu, and gradually became a Buddhist temple. These photos date from a visit in 1996; more recent pictures are in the Siem Reap gallery.
