Blue Ceramic Vase with Two Branches of Leaves and Flowers – O'Tama Kiyohara – Palazzo dei Normanni, Palermo

Two branches of the Mexican hand tree (Chiranthodendron pentadactylon), with red claw-like flowers and broad leaves, stand in a blue jug; the watercolour and tempera is signed in Japanese on the back, with a portrait sketch. It is one of the works of the Japanese painter O'Tama Kiyohara (1861–1939), wife of the Palermo sculptor Vincenzo Ragusa, shown at the Royal Palace in 2020 from the Palermo museum named after the couple.
