Allegory of Water (Birth of Venus) – Giorgio Vasari and Cristofano Gherardi – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

Venus rises from the sea standing on a scallop shell, surrounded by tritons blowing conches, nereids and sea gods offering coral and pearls. Giorgio Vasari and Cristofano Gherardi painted this wall of the Sala degli Elementi in 1555–1558, above a fireplace flanked by busts and inscribed with the name of Duke Cosimo I.
