Allegory of Fire – Giorgio Vasari and Cristofano Gherardi – Palazzo Vecchio, Florence

Above the fireplace, Vulcan hammers thunderbolts at his forge, watched by Venus and helped by cupids, while cyclopes work the bellows in a classical landscape. Giorgio Vasari and Cristofano Gherardi painted this fresco in 1555–1558 for the Sala degli Elementi, the first room of the apartments Cosimo I had decorated with the gods of antiquity.
