Old shepherds with weathered faces lean over the Child, whom the Virgin reveals by lifting a white cloth that reflects the candlelight. Painted around 1637 by the Dutch Caravaggist Matthias Stomer, who settled in Sicily, it was lent by the Museo di Capodimonte in Naples.
