Around the Virgin and Child, a crowd of figures overwhelmed by emotion, some barely sketched, others more finished, before ruins and horsemen in combat. Commissioned in 1481 by the Augustinian friars of San Donato a Scopeto, this large altarpiece was left unfinished when Leonardo left for Milan.
