A muscular nude man sits bent forward, chin on his hand, absorbed in thought, originally conceived as Dante contemplating his poem above the Gates of Hell. This bronze, modelled around 1880 and cast in 1956 by the Rudier foundry, was given by the Musée Rodin and is in the Collection of Modern Religious Art.
