Around the Eucharist on the altar, the Church on earth, popes, bishops and theologians, debates beneath the Church in heaven, where Christ sits between the Virgin and John the Baptist among saints and patriarchs. Raphael painted it in 1509–1510 in the Room of the Segnatura, his first great fresco for Pope Julius II.
