The Boxers Creugas and Damoxenos – Antonio Canova – Vatican Museums

Two nude Greek boxers face each other in tense, powerful poses, recalling a fight in which Damoxenos killed Creugas with a treacherous blow. Antonio Canova carved them in 1795–1806 to stand beside his Perseus in the Octagonal Court of the Pio-Clementino Museum.
