Reliquary of Montalto – French goldsmiths (detail) – Vatican Museums

A Gothic reliquary in silver gilt, gems, pearls and enamel, with the dead Christ held by angels under a Gothic canopy. Made in Paris around 1377, perhaps by the court goldsmith Jean du Vivier for King Charles V of France, it was later given by Pope Sixtus V to his home town of Montalto and was shown at the Vatican Pinacoteca in the 2024 exhibition The Reliquary of Montalto.
