Pairs of saints in gold niches, among them Catherine and Lucy, Stephen and Lawrence, Peter and Benedict, above a predella crowded with choirs of virgins, martyrs, apostles, patriarchs and prophets. Painted in 1360–1365 by Giovanni da Milano for the high altar of Ognissanti, it brought a new naturalism to the Giotto tradition.
