Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian – attributed to Girolamo Genga – Uffizi Gallery, Florence

Saint Sebastian, bound to a tree, is pierced by the arrows of colourfully dressed soldiers while God the Father and angels bring him the crown of martyrdom. Painted around 1510–1515 and attributed to Girolamo Genga of Urbino, pupil of Signorelli and Perugino, whose costumes suggest a familiarity with the theatre.
