Madonna of the Girdle – Benozzo Gozzoli – Vatican Museums

Surrounded by angels in a mandorla, the Virgin rises to heaven and drops her girdle to Saint Thomas kneeling by her empty tomb, above a predella with stories of her life. Painted in 1450 by Benozzo Gozzoli for the church of San Fortunato in Montefalco, it is in the Vatican Pinacoteca.
