Limoges Painted Enamels – Vatican Museums – Vatican Museums

Plaques of painted enamel on copper with scenes of the Passion, from the Carrying of the Cross and the Crucifixion to the Deposition and the Resurrection, in deep blues, whites and gold. They were made in Limoges, France, in the 16th century, when its workshops led Renaissance Europe in this art.
