Mourners gather around the body of Christ at the foot of the cross, while two kneeling patrons, a nun and a fashionably dressed girl, are presented by Saints Benedict and Remigius. Painted around 1360–1365 by Giottino for the church of San Remigio, it is one of the masterpieces of 14th-century Florentine painting.
