Between two masses of dark trees, a sunlit glade of yellow and green opens towards distant hills, with small figures and animals resting in the shade at the bottom of the canvas. Pierre Bonnard painted this large Summer landscape in 1917; it is one of the masterpieces of the Maeght collection.
