Kyoto, Japan
Kyoto was the imperial capital of Japan from 794 to 1868. With about 1,600 Buddhist temples and 400 Shinto shrines, it is the heart of traditional Japanese culture, and its historic monuments are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This large gallery was photographed in 2010: Kinkaku-ji and Ginkaku-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, Ryōan-ji, Nijō Castle, the Imperial Palace, the Gion district, Pontochō and the banks of the Kamo river.
