Hercules and the Centaur Nessus – Roman art and Giovanni Battista Caccini – Uffizi Gallery, Florence

Hercules grips the centaur Nessus by the hair and forces him to his knees to punish him for trying to carry off his wife Deianira. The group, which stands in the corridor, combines an ancient Roman torso with extensive restorations by the Florentine sculptor Giovanni Battista Caccini at the end of the 16th century.
