Christ's body is held upright before the open tomb by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, between the grieving Virgin and Saint John, in a landscape of minute naturalistic detail. Rogier van der Weyden painted it around 1450, after his journey to Italy for the Jubilee, drawing on a model by Fra Angelico.
