Dama de Baza – Eduardo Arroyo – Maeght Foundation, Saint-Paul-de-Vence

A huge square canvas shows a stiff frontal figure enthroned in a patterned mantle, its folds laid out in symmetrical bands of red, white and ochre against a black ground. Eduardo Arroyo painted it in 1994 after the Lady of Baza, a seated Iberian goddess of the 4th century BC found in Andalusia, one of the treasures of Spain's National Archaeological Museum.
