Courtyard of the Bargello – Bargello Museum, Florence

The courtyard of the Palazzo del Bargello, built from 1255 as the Palazzo del Popolo and later the seat of the Podestà and of the chief of police, is lined with the coats of arms of the podestà and an outdoor staircase leading to the loggia. The fortress-like palace has housed Italy's national museum of sculpture since 1865.
