Buddhas Sheltered by the Naga – Angkor Wat and Bayon styles – Angkor National Museum, Siem Reap

The Buddha meditates on the coils of the serpent king Mucalinda, whose hoods rise behind him as a shelter, the most popular Buddhist image of the Khmer empire. These sandstone statues in the Angkor Wat and Bayon styles date from the 12th–13th century, some from Angkor Wat itself.
